Con is a town of Hai Hau district, Nam Dinh province. Con is also the first town of Nam Dinh province. The town was founded in 1958 by decision of the Prime Minister Democratic Republic of Vietnam, including a natural area and population of Hai Tan and Hai Tien separated. On 18-12-1976, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam made the Decision 1506/CP to join Hai Tien into Con townlet.
Con townlet locates in south central Hai Hau district, east bordering Hai Ly, northeast bordering Hai Tay, southeast bordering Hai Chinh, north bordering Hai Tan, west bordering Hai Son, southwest bordering Hai Cuong, south bordering Hai Xuan. Today, there are 16 units. Con townlet from the old was famous for Con market - the commercial center of the southern of Hai Hau district. Con townlet is the smallest town of Hai Hau district but the economic is relatively well development with economic elements mainly small business, handicraft and industries, in addition to a farming area in old Hai Tien( An Bai village).
Although a small town but there are three schools including elementary, secondary and high school (Name Hai Hau C and recognized national standard in 2008). Universal secondary school was completed in 1997. Pass rate in the high school of the town always over 80% and pass rate over the years in the University is also increased and reached high levels.
Con Pagoda is famous one of the district with the festival was held on 04-02 lunar year. The pagoda is located at unit No.5, distances from the town People's Committee about 100m to the west. Con Pagoda was the Ministry of Culture and Information awarded national historical monuments level in 1995.
The town also has almost 40% Catholic population, concentrated mainly around the An Bai Church. The church is located on the Unit Nguyen Tao, built in 1933 as the focus for local Catholics to pray.
